Bean Voyage’s Impact Featured in Journal of Rural Studies Paper

Research involving Bean Voyage’s women producer participants has been published in the Journal of Rural Studies.

This study provides a deep dive into agricultural femininities among female coffee producers in Costa Rica.

It identifies key traits that define their identities: the Social Caregiver, the Female Survivor, and the Female Innovator & Entrepreneur, highlighting how these roles blend traditional and alternative characteristics to challenge and transform prevailing gender norms.

The findings emphasize the importance of gender awareness in fostering empowerment and confidence. One notable insight shows how participants in Bean Voyage’s gender-focused programs exhibit a heightened awareness of gender dynamics and are better equipped to navigate male-dominated spaces compared to non-participants.

This publication reinforces the value of tailored, community-based programming in driving gender equity and creating meaningful change.
